Overview
Tropic’s Slack integration enables you to receive notifications for key activities within the platform directly in their Slack workspace. Once connected, you can stay informed about assigned tasks, contract renewals, @ mentions, and request approvals without needing to check Tropic manually.

Prerequisites
- Requires the following role: Owner
- Ensure you have administrative access to your Slack workspace to authorize the integration.
Step-By-Step Demo
Tip: You can navigate back and forth between steps by positioning your mouse at the bottom of the demo screen. A progress bar will appear, allowing you to jump to different steps as needed.
Step to Connect
- Navigate to the Integration page in Tropic.
- Search for Slack and select Communications under Data Categories.
- Click View Details, or use the Setup Integration link in the email you received after being assigned this step.
- Click Connect and authorize the required permissions.
Verify Your Slack Connection
Next, each user should verify their Tropic profile is connected to Slack.
- Log in to the Purchasing Portal.
- Click your avatar in the upper right and select Profile & Notifications.
- Above the Notifications section, a message indicates whether your profile is connected to Slack.
- If the message states Connected as …, no further action is needed.
- If the message states Your Slack is disconnected… or Connect to Slack…, click Connect.
- In the modal, enter your email address for the Slack workspace
- Click Save.
- This changes the message to Slack is pending verification…. The integration also sends a verification message in Slack.
- In Slack, open the verification message and click Approve.
- Return to Tropic, the message should now state Connected as ….
Enable Slack Notifications
To get Slack notifications from Tropic, users must enable them in their Tropic profile’s notifications settings.
- Log in to the Purchasing Portal.
- Click your avatar in the upper right and select Profile & Notifications.
- In the Notifications section, use the Slack toggle to enable or disable Slack notifications.
Permissions Required
Tropic’s Slack app uses the following Slack permission scopes:
- chat:write
- users:read
- users:read.email
Post-Setup
Now that Slack is connected, you'll receive notifications for key activities, including:
- Assigned tasks.
- Contract renewal reminders.
- Tagged @ mentions in a request or contract.
- Requests they submit.
- Approve, Request Changes, or Reject Requests.
You can enable these notifications in their Tropic profile’s notifications settings.
