Overview
Whether you’re using a traditional username/password login, Google OAuth, or SAML-based Single Sign-On (SSO), this guide will help you choose and configure the login preferences that best suit your organization’s security and convenience needs.
Understanding Login Methods
Tropic offers several login methods to meet different security and authentication requirements. Here's what each option means:
-
Any: Allows all supported authentication methods: Username/Password, Google OAuth2, and SAML.
- Provides flexibility, allowing users to log in with any method. Ideal for organizations with diverse user preferences or less strict security requirements.
-
Username/Password: Permits login using a traditional username and password, typically managed by an authentication service like Auth0.
- This method is easy to implement and familiar to most users but may be less secure unless strong passwords and multi-factor authentication are enforced. Suitable for smaller organizations or those without strict security needs.
-
Google OAuth2: Allows users to log in with their Google accounts via OAuth2, an open-standard authorization protocol.
- Enhances security by leveraging Google’s authentication services, which include strong measures like two-factor authentication. Useful for organizations where users already use Google services and prefer a simplified login experience.
-
SAML: Permits login through SAML-based Single Sign-On (SSO), a protocol that enables users to access multiple applications with a single set of credentials.
- Commonly used in larger organizations to centralize user authentication, reduce the number of credentials to manage, and ensure compliance with security policies. Ideal for organizations that prioritize security and ease of user management.
- Note: If you choose SAML as your login method, you'll need to configure your SAML-based Single Sign-On (SSO) provider. For detailed steps on setting up SSO for Tropic, please refer to our SSO Login Setup Guide.

By default, Tropic sets the session duration to 2 weeks. If you want a shorter or longer session duration, you can adjust this setting to better fit your organization’s security policies
