Overview
Savings Intelligence lets you log savings after using Tropic intelligence tools such as price benchmarks or negotiation playbooks to manage negotiations yourself.
When Tropic intelligence is used and a related contract event occurs, Tropic automatically creates a Log Savings task.
Savings are logged directly in Tropic instead of being tracked in spreadsheets or external tools. This makes it easier to understand impact, support renewal conversations, and see which intelligence contributed to outcomes.

How Savings Tasks Are Created
Savings Intelligence automatically creates a Log Savings task when Tropic detects that intelligence tools were used and a related contract event occurs.
A task is generated when:
- A contract reaches its end date and Tropic intelligence was accessed for that supplier.
- A new contract is uploaded for a supplier where intelligence was previously accessed.
- A manual price benchmark was delivered.
There is no time limit on intelligence access. If Tropic intelligence was accessed for a supplier at any point in the past, a savings task may be created when a qualifying contract event occurs.
These tasks appear in the Action Center and are assigned to users involved with the supplier or contract, such as:
- Users who accessed price benchmarks or negotiation playbooks
- Users who requested benchmarks
- Contract owners
A task may be assigned to multiple users, but only one submission is required to log savings.
How to Log Savings
Logged savings will contribute to your organization’s upcoming savings dashboard and reporting views.
You can log savings in two ways.
Log savings from a task
- Open the Log Savings task in the Upcoming Tasks section of the Action Center.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Log Savings
- Decision Still Pending
- Just Browsing
- If you need more time before logging savings, click Reschedule Task to move the task to a later date.
Select whether you saved money or gained value.
- If you select Yes, complete the form:
- Starting Value: The originally quoted price.
-
Ending Value: The negotiated price you agreed to.
If a contract value exists, this may prefill. -
Total Savings: Automatically calculated based on starting and ending values.
You can edit this if needed.
Suggestions are prefilled when possible and can always be edited. You can upload supporting documents and add notes before submitting.
-
What result did you achieve? Select one or more:
- Cost Reduction
- Value Enhancement
- Cost Avoidance
- Termination
If you select No, confirm that no savings were realized.
Only one savings entry can be logged per contract to prevent duplicates.
Each savings entry is tied to a specific contract and supplier and captures the financial impact and intelligence used.
Log savings manually
You don’t need to wait for a task to log savings. Manual logging is useful when savings come from decisions that don’t trigger an automatic task, such as deciding not to renew a contract or walking away from a supplier after reviewing pricing.
You can log savings manually from several places in Tropic, including contract and supplier pages.
Use manual logging when:
- No Log Savings task was created
- A contract was terminated or not renewed
- A supplier was not selected after reviewing pricing
Manual savings entries appear in the same places as task-logged savings.
Where You Can View and Manage Logged Savings
Once savings are submitted, you can access them from both the contract and the supplier pages.
On a Contract page, click View Savings to see the savings logged for that contract. Only one savings entry can be logged per contract.
You can also log savings directly from the contract page.
From a Supplier Page
On the supplier’s Overview tab, the Savings section shows all savings logged for that supplier.
From there, you can:
- View savings records
- Edit or archive them
- Click Log Savings to add a new entry
Whether savings were logged through a task or manually, they appear as savings records on both the contract and supplier pages.
