Connect Tropic to Claude Desktop, Claude web, or Claude Code (CLI).
|
Two steps, two people Setting up Tropic in Claude requires two actions: (1) a Claude Workspace Owner enables the Tropic connector for your organization - this is a one-time step. (2) Each individual user connects Tropic to their own account. Both steps are required. If you are a regular user and do not see Tropic in your connector list, your admin has not yet completed step one. |
What You Need
- A paid Claude plan (Pro, Team, or Enterprise). Free accounts cannot add the Tropic connector.
- A Claude Workspace Owner to complete the one-time org-level setup.
- Your Tropic login credentials.
Step 1: Admin Enables Tropic for the Organization
This step is completed once by a Claude Workspace Owner. It makes the Tropic connector available to everyone in your organization.
- Open Claude and navigate to Organizational Settings - Connectors.
- Click Add - All available.
- Search for Tropic and click Add to your team.
Once this is done, the Tropic connector will appear in each user's Customize - Connect your apps menu.
Step 2: Each User Connects Tropic to Their Account
Every individual user who wants to use the connector must complete this step themselves.
- Open Claude and navigate to Customize - Connect your apps.
- Search for Tropic and click Connect.
- Authenticate to Tropic when prompted.
Once authenticated, your Claude chats will have access to Tropic data and intelligence. You can manage permissions or disconnect Tropic at any time from Customize - Connectors.
|
How long does my login stay active? Access tokens last approximately one hour and refresh automatically via a long-lived refresh token (valid 30-90 days). You should rarely need to re-authenticate. If you see authentication errors mid-session, disconnect and reconnect from Customize - Connectors. |
Using Tropic with Claude Code (CLI)
If your organization does not permit Claude Desktop installation, you can still use the Tropic MCP connector via the Claude Code command-line interface.
Run the following command in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http tropic https://app.tropicapp.io/mcp
Then start Claude by typing claude and then /mcp. You will be prompted to authenticate via your browser. Once you sign in, your requests are tied to your Tropic account via OAuth - the same permissions and security model as the desktop connector.
Rolling Out to Your Team
After enabling the connector, you will need to communicate this to your team - Tropic does not send an automatic notification when MCP becomes available.
- Send a team-wide Slack or email with a link to this guide and a few example prompts.
- Consider a short lunch-and-learn or a recorded walkthrough - teams that do this see higher adoption.
- Your Tropic Account Manager has a templated rollout email if you'd like one.
Disconnecting Tropic from Claude
To disconnect at the individual account level: go to Customize - Connectors - click Tropic - Disconnect. This does not affect other users in your organization.
To remove Tropic at the organization level: a Workspace Owner removes it from Organizational Settings - Connectors.
Troubleshooting
I can't find Tropic in my Claude connector list.
Your admin hasn't completed Step 1 yet. Ask your Claude Workspace Owner to go to Organizational Settings - Connectors - Add - All available and add Tropic. Once they do, refresh Claude or sign out and back in.
I'm getting 'authentication required' errors mid-session.
Go to Customize - Connectors - Tropic - Disconnect, then reconnect and sign in again. If the issue persists, check with your admin that your Tropic account is still active in Settings - Users.
Claude doesn't seem to be using the Tropic connector even though it's connected.
Try rephrasing your prompt to explicitly mention Tropic (e.g. 'Using Tropic, what is the price benchmark for...'). Also check that the connector is showing as connected under Customize - Connect your apps. If it's connected but Claude still isn't calling it, try starting a new chat.
