Note: This guide assumes the Ironclad integration has already been set up by your Tropic admin. If you're not sure, refer to Setting Up and Maintaining the Ironclad Integration.ย
This article shows you how to submit Ironclad workflows directly from a Tropic request, track approval and signature progress, manage updated documents and redlines, and access your synced workflows between Tropic and Ironclad.
Submitting an Ironclad Workflow from Tropic
When you're assigned to the Ironclad task on a request,ย
Click Select Workflow. Youโll see an option to either start a new Ironclad workflow or link one that was already submitted outside Tropic.
- Choose your Ironclad workflow from the dropdown and click Select Workflow.
- In the request form, fill out any remaining questions and upload the draft contract or supporting documents.
- Click Submit to Ironclad, or Save as Draft if you need to confirm details, gather missing documents, or finish the form later.
Next Steps After Submission
Once you submit the Ironclad workflow from the request form:
- The task moves from Open Tasks to Completed in Tropic.
- Tropic automatically moves to the next task in the workflow and tracks its progress. If the next task is an Ironclad Approval Status or Signature task, it will update in Tropic as soon as Ironclad reports itโs done, no manual steps required.
You can view all synced activity from the Ironclad Workflows tab in Tropic. From that tab, you can:
- See the current status (e.g., whoโs next to approve)
- View submitted answers
- Download uploaded documents
- Upload new versions or additional attachments
Working in the Ironclad Workflows Tab
If you need to add more documents after submission, like a revised draft from Legal or a missing appendix, you can upload them directly from the Ironclad Workflows tab. This keeps everything connected to the same workflow and ensures visibility in both Tropic and Ironclad.
Viewing and Managing the Workflow in Ironclad
Click View in Ironclad to open the full workflow directly in Ironclad.
From there, you can:
- Upload updated documents
- Track signature progress
- Add or review comments

Understanding Document Versions and Redlines
Need to make edits to a contract after itโs been uploaded to Ironclad? Here's how Tropic handles this.
Legal teams often update contract drafts with redlines (tracked edits and changes). So when someone uploads a new version of a document in Ironclad (like a redlined version from Legal), the latest version will show up in Tropic under the Ironclad Workflows tab. You can view or download it from there at any time.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Only the latest version is visible in Tropic (older versions are not saved)
- These updated files don't show up in the Documents tab (that's just for the final signed copy)
- Tropic doesn't store each version (it shows whatever is current in Ironclad when you open the page)
- Tropic doesnโt send a notification when a new version is uploaded in Ironclad
- If your Legal team wants the requester to share the redlines with the supplier, the requester will need to download the file from the Ironclad Workflows tab and send it manually
If your Legal team prefers not to communicate directly with the supplier, we recommend setting up a clear process with the requester for downloading the latest version from Tropic and sharing it with the supplier.
